yesterday
i dipped my toes in the ocean
scaled rocks barefoot
cut my foot on a barnacle
erudite into summer
i saw a seagull skip triumphant over waves
his new catch dangling from his beak
and gave a sand crab a proper burial
with my feet under water i heard
'wow. she's so brave'.
